Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry and Ron Paul are in a statistical dead heat among Iowa conservatives, according to a new poll conducted by the 2012 Iowa Report. The poll finds Bachmann at 24% with Perry and Paul at 23% support among likely conservative caucus goers, showing that three candidates have separated themselves from the field among conservatives.
Bachmann, who for weeks has been polling strong among Iowa conservatives, has distanced herself from Sarah Palin (3%) but now must contend with the Texas Governor’s fast-charging, soon-to-be campaign. It is yet to be determined if Perry’s rapid rise in Iowa will be tempered by his decision to bypass the Hawkeye State altogether during the Straw Poll festivities.
Other key findings:
--Iowa conservatives now think Rick Perry is most likely to ultimately win the nomination.
--Mit Romney continues to demonstrate credibility but not support in Iowa, with 20% of Iowa conservatives thinking he will ultimately win but just 4% supporting him now.
--Ron Paul now appears to be positioned to be a major player in Iowa this campaign season.
--Sarah Palin may have missed her opportunity in Iowa.
The 2012 Iowa Report Poll, a project of Grassfire Nation, is a special survey of Iowa conservatives conducted weekly to help measure where Iowa conservatives stand on the 2012 Republican presidential field.
